# Therapy for High-Functioning Adults

“I’m successful but completely exhausted. What kind of help do I need?”

Therapy does not have to begin with something being terribly wrong.

You may have built a good life and a successful career and still live with anxiety, exhaustion or a sense that something is missing.

Sometimes it begins with recognising that you want more freedom, vitality, meaning or enjoyment from the life you already have.

Many people I work with are highly capable. They function well, carry significant responsibility and have created successful lives.

That does not mean those lives always feel good from the inside.

You may be functioning exceptionally well while feeling exhausted, emotionally flat, over responsible, unable to switch off or wondering why the things you worked so hard for no longer feel as satisfying as you expected.

You may be thinking things such as:

“My life works, but the way I’m living it doesn’t.”

“I’ve become very good at functioning, but I’m tired of functioning this way.”

“I’m exhausted from holding everything together.”

## What kind of therapist works with executives, founders or high achievers?

The people I work with may be professionals, entrepreneurs, founders, executives, clinicians, creatives, parents or simply people carrying a great deal of responsibility.

Their lives may look successful and functional from the outside.

Internally, however, they may be reaching a point where the way they have been living no longer feels sustainable, meaningful or satisfying.

You don’t need to think of yourself as traumatised, broken or mentally unwell.

What you have achieved is not who you are, though the way you learned to be so capable may be part of what we look at.

## Why am I unhappy when my life is objectively good?

You don’t need to arrive with a diagnosis or crisis.

Sometimes people come because they feel disconnected from themselves, bored with their own responses, uncertain about what they want next or aware that their lives are working but no longer feel particularly alive.

We can begin there.

## Quality of life and long-term wellbeing

Many people I see already take good care of their physical health, through exercise, nutrition, sleep and regular medical checks.

Their psychological, emotional and relational lives have often had far less attention.

It is possible to invest a great deal in staying well and still live in a way that leaves you chronically stressed, emotionally exhausted or out of touch with yourself.

My part in that wider picture is the psychological, emotional, somatic and relational side of wellbeing.

I do not offer medical treatment, and I make no claim that therapy lengthens life.

What interests me is how you experience the life you have, and whether there is joy, connection, meaning, intimacy, rest and ease in it.

I believe it is possible to remain ambitious and productive without being driven by patterns that exhaust you.

## I’m interested in what is creating it

I don’t believe the answer is another list of everything that is wrong with you.

Life is challenging. Most of us are doing our best. Our responses developed for reasons.

I pay attention to the whole person: what you are thinking and feeling, what your body and nervous system are doing, the adaptations you have learned, and the relational and family dynamics that may still be shaping your experience.

Because knowing your history doesn’t always change the way you respond.

**That’s where I like to work.**

The goal is to become freer to live your life, and to enjoy it.
